When a student join MBA, one gives importance to the term management, and not managing business, the thought process of management schools have not improved.

Master of business administration: what is administration, are you a good administrator? Have you as a management student evaluated your adminstartion skills.

Now talking about business management, management students are always focused on large MNC having varied business operations. But what they need to learn is how are smaller companies with say 20-30 employess managing their business.

We talk about KFC and Mac’s of the world but have not researched about chicking fried chicken or southern fried chicken who are single man owned entities and have all owned outlets across several countires? Make a note both the owners mentioned above are mallus.

MBA has a word business, which, I feel, not many management institutes in the country has emphasized on.

The system of management education need to be changed in our country, most of them go through CAT entrance mode. Is this the right method? One needs to see.

I feel this is completely wrong approach to management in our country; they develop manager donkeys, who do what is said to be done and get a name for the same.

My professor during my management course use to say “none of u donkeys will need to wear a suit, as the only thing that you would be doing assist your boss to fix their laptop”

Marketing management

Our marketing management curriculum does not give a whole lot of importance to number crunching, where as, numbers are the most important facts as far as marketing is concerned. Facts, figures, percentage, profit margin, debt equity ratio, net ROI, weights, graphs, compare evaluation, actual sales, how many of you in marketing have actually thought you need to be through with these skills, and believe me that’s the reason why MBA in marketing is considered more on to a glorified sales man job, you cannot become a good marketer unless one can crack the number game.

Similarly with HR, most of them think HR is a girls subject in MBA and leaving few women who are extremely successful with HR most of them are to send birthday reminders to colleagues of their firm. Is HR an easy job? Is it an easy subject? Do you know that even a CEO’s performance evalution is done by the HR guys.

HR involves performance evaluation, number game, negotiation and strategy and HR form the most important function of management, which is not given or getting the value that it should be getting, as a business man what I found is that HR is the most important function of business and well as management, the game is all about managing your resources, the most important among them being human resource.

I being a business man have understood the importance and value of HR. and sad no one is actually very keen to take up HR as a serious career.

Finance, operations and others can actually be done by computers; it’s the marketing skills of yours that can come to help to have a great career in finance.

Do keep a track of all your alumni and what they do, it’s very important to shape your career.

Talk to every single person in the class, as its networking that shall take it ahead. If you are not into networking then you are missing something big in the years to come.

Send cards on birthdays it’s actually takes an effort to do so, and the person receiving it shall be very happy for the same.

Think of starting a new business every day. And think why it can or cannot happen by doing so you shall be putting your brains to work, its like exercise, it shall make your brains stronger.
